A few weeks ago, I decided to put my money where my mouth is.
You see, as a FB cold traffic copywriter, I wanted to run cold traffic to an affiliate offer and see if I can pull it off.
My goal wasn’t necessarily to make loads of cash and buy myself a Lambo.
Not because I don’t like Lambos, but cuz the budget was pretty low, and the whole funnel wasn’t optimized for sales (no opt-in, no retargeting…etc)
What I was really looking to prove was FB ads metrics (CPC, CTRLink, CPM…etc.)
So I joined an affiliate network. And I sifted through the offers to find one that has certain criteria.
And because I might be a sadistic dude I picked a type 2 diabetes reversal product and decided to promote it with FB ads.
Talk about an anti-compliance product…
Here’s what I did:
Signed up to promote the offer.
Built a bridge page.
Launched the first campaign (it bombed)
Made some tweaks and launched a second campaign…
Five minutes later…
My ad account got banned (otherwise it would’ve not been fun, right?)
Lucky as I am I got it back pretty quickly
My eyes were wide open. I just couldn’t believe it! I must have been the luckiest mf that day lol
So, back in the game. The second campaign looked pretty promising… ppl were commenting, engaging with the ad, and all that good stuff…
As I said, the funnel wasn’t optimized for sales. So what mattered to me was FB ads metrics (CPC, CTRLink, CPM…etc)
Because when we get those right, then you could move forward to optimize the rest of the funnel.
Some ppl optimize back to front. Others do it front to back. I’m on the latter’s team.
So I let the campaign run for a couple of days and..
Here are the results I’ve got
If you know anything about FB ads, 1.5% is considered a “good” CTRLink. And most are happy with it. But here I am with 5%-8% CTRlinks.
Obviously, at scale, these numbers would be lower. But I bet it’d be way higher than the industry average.
How was I able to do that?
Certainly not some “ninja” targeting but rather a story-based copy with an opening line that attacks the market’s biggest fear: an amputation. Here’s what the ad looked like:
Conclusion:
Two takeaways from this case study:
First off, no matter how anti compliant your product might be. There’s a way to work around that and advertise on platforms you would normally not be able to.
Secondly, you don’t have to settle for low CTRs and conversion rates. When you do things differently than most people. And when you appeal to the main fear and core desires of your market, you can expect extraordinary results.
